Admission

Entry to the museum is free but we do appreciate a small donation.

Opening Times

The museum is usually open from 1st May to 30th September on Bank Holidays and Weekends only between 12 - 4pm. For 2021 we hope to open until 31st October.
The Palace Grounds are open daily between April and October and at weekends throughout the year.  To arrange out of hours visits please contact  bishopswalthammuseum@gmail.com

Accessibility

The Palace car park is a short, level, walk to the museum with a gravel path.  For wheelchair visitors and those with decreased mobility it is only the ground floor of the building that is accessible. Access to the first floor is via a wooden staircase. Please note that the Pondside Gate is not currently suitable for wheelchairs or push chairs due to the loose surface. We hope this will be rectified soon.

Facilities

Unfortunately we do not have toilet facilities at the museum - the nearest WC is in the Basingwell Street car park (300m).  Sorry, we do not have a café either, but the town has many delicious cafes, bars and restaurants just over the road - click here for more information.  We have a small number of cards and books on Bishop’s Waltham on sale within the museum.

Dogs

Dogs with well trained owners are welcome.

Parking

Parking at the Palace is free, the entrance to the car park is off the B2177.
Parking is also available in the town car parks at Basingwell Street (short stay) and Lower Lane (long stay), both pay and display. There is also unrestricted on-street car parking on Station Road, next to the Palace. Click here for more information on parking locally.

Please note: the grounds are only open between the hours of 10.00 and 18.00 or sunset. At other times the gate to the car park and to the grounds will be locked.

Group Visits

We welcome group visits by special arrangement.   Past visitors have included WI, Guide, Scout and Beaver groups, history associations, U3A, home education groups and conference attendees.

Please contact us to arrange your visit at: bishopswalthammuseum@gmail.com
